Healthy Ideas??

I recently got a huge wake up call from my doctor and as a result I must exercise every day and eat as healthy as possible. So I need some help from all you healthy cooks and diligent exercisers out there. Do you have any great recipes or tips on how to get in a work-out everyday? These two darling little ones need me to be a healthy mom. Thanks!!

i know clint wishes sometimes i wasn't such a healthy "chef" (word used loosely) but i'm always trying new healthy recipes from my magazines, which you can find online: self, shape, body+soul. and i try eat a big salad at lunch and dinner. lots of veggies and fills me up. as for exercise, you know how i am. but sometimes what works if clint's going to be gone, getting up early before the kids do or he leaves. then it's done and i have energy for the day, even if it's hard to get going early. it never fails to give me a jolt when i'm done. good luck, and i hope everything is okay!

I'm sorry but I have no advice! I just wanted to say that I hope you are okay. You could always get a gym membership that has free day care.

Good Luck and I hope everything works out for you..

What? You need to be healthier? Hello! Whole-wheat pancake woman! I love walking. I wish you were closer. We'd go on walks every day. I still haven't found someone who wants to walk with me all the time. I think the best money you could spend would be on a stroller that would fit both your kids. It doesn't have to be expensive, but something that would let you go on long walks with the kids (especially before it gets too hot!).

As far as healthy eating goes, I would recommend the following. Keep in mind that I have an MS in Biochemistry with an emphasis in plant science...

You need to have a few nuts every day. Soak them overnight so they aren't as hard and they will be easier to digest. Make sure they are shelled, tree nuts, not peanuts which are one of the worst foods you can eat.

Try to get some fresh veggies every day. I take a bag of carrots, a head of leaf lettuce (not iceberg which is basically worthless), a bell pepper, and celery to work every day and eat that as part of my snacking throughout the day. You can try tomatoes, jicama, or whatever you want, but green and leafy is best.

Eat some good cleansing fruit every day. The best are citrus, even if not in season, kiwi, and avocados (which are fruits). Lemons and limes are hard to peel and sour, but they are SO good for you.

As for exercise, start something. Get Craig to join you if you can or follow Jen's suggestion with the stroller. Motivation to act comes from doing it. If you can go three weeks with regular exercise, you will be able to make it a habit. So what do I do? I run 10K THS and bike 20K MWF, and I try to do weights while I watch TV (what little I watch). I do this in the very early morning (6AM) which might work for you if Craig is there to watch the kids while you're busy for an hour exercising. Good luck!
